WEEKEND DEBATE ON HEALTH CARE Continues

Today

The House Rules Committee has cleared the way for the full House to take up health care legislation. The committee rejected 80 possible amendments, and passed a rule allowing for separate votes on the Senate health care bill and the reconciliation bill. The House returns at 1pm ET to take up health care.

Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) joins Newsmakers to discuss the immigration reform legislation that was introduced on Thursday. The plan would force undocumented workers to admit to breaking the law and require workers to carry biometric cards affirming their eligibility for employment. The measure comes ahead of an immigrant rights rally today in Washington.

This past week, Treasury Sec. Timothy Geithner, OMB Dir. Peter Orszag and Council of Economic Advisers Chairwoman Christina Romer testified on the economic outlook for fiscal year 2011. Also, Fed. Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke spoke alongside former Fed Chairman Paul Volcker at a separate hearing on the Fed's role in bank supervision.
